"I later attended an all-girls K–12 school and an all-women 4-year college, so I grew up with a positive outlook.

I believed that I was capable of anything, Goodman recounted. With that in mind, Goodman and her husband Oscar relocated from Philadelphia to Las Vegas.

"My husband and I are very fortunate to have made the decision to relocate here in 1964. It's been the best life ever," gushed Goodman.

Goodman obtained a master's degree in counselling from UNLV while also caring for her four children.

"I really think that women can achieve their goals in life. The world is not fair to men.

She was first hesitant to run after her husband, who was also a three-term mayor of Las Vegas, reached the turn limit.
